Theatre West is auditioning for new musical theatre members on July 24.
Theatre West is the oldest running membership nonprofit theatre company in Los Angeles. Est. in 1962, the company’s four artistic workshops have been the foundation and heart of the company. Great works such as Spoon River Anthology and A Bronx Tale got their start in workshop and on stage at Theatre West and they both went on to Broadway.
To date, Theatre West has produced over 300 shows. Two-thirds of the shows have been original works developed in workshop. Broadway, film and TV legend Betty Garrett was one of the founding members of the company and was active until she died at the age of 91. Betty moderated the Musical Comedy Workshop for many years and produced quite a few musical theatre showcases. Her musical comedy workshop is still going today, moderated by Theatre West member Anthony Gruppuso.
Members are entitled to weekly singing workshops with an accompanist on Wednesday nights as well as access to Monday Night Actors Workshop, Tuesday night Writers Workshop, Thursday night Shakespeare workshop, monthly professional development workshops, free rehearsal and stage time, opportunities to audition for Equity contract shows through the company’s children’s theatre, Storybook Theatre, as well as various main stage productions and shorter shows.
The theatre is located at 3333 Cahuenga Blvd, over the hill from the Hollywood Bowl and across the freeway from Universal Studios.
